FarmShots, based in Raleigh, North Carolina, is a new startup focused on analyzing agricultural data from images captured by satellites and drones. Specifically, the company aims to “detect diseases, pests and poor crop nutrients on farms”.

For example, the company claims its software can tell users exactly where fertilizer is needed and reduce the amount of fertilizer used by nearly 40 percent. The software is distributed through mobile devices.

In April 2017, FarmShots, along with its affiliate partner Planet, announced limited access to John Deere products for its customers through June 2017. This collaboration provides another insight into John Deere’s interest in expanding the agricultural technology space. It appears that the FarmShots website does not include specific customer examples or case studies.
